How do I use the LockDown Browser on my personal computer?

This guide will walk you through the process of using the LockDown Browser when you take a test in Canvas.  

LockDown on a personal computer

Once you download the LockDown Browser on your personal computer you will find the icon on your Desktop or Applications Folder for Mac.

Double click the icon to launch the program.

  1. Click Yes to allow the program to run. 
  2. Click on the arrow to drop down the menu.
  3. Click on Canvas@Tacoma CC.
  4. Click OK to confirm you selection.
  5. LockDown Browser will close any programs that you have open and running.  They must be closed. Click Yes to close any programs.
  6. Click Yes to continue to Canvas.
  7. You will be prompted to log in. Use your Portal user name and password, click Login.
  8. Canvas will open and you will continue to your course as you normally do.
  9. Navigate to your quiz.
  10. Click on Take the Quiz.
  11. Once you are done with the quiz you will click on the Submit Quiz as you normally do.
  12. To close out of the LockDown Browser, click on the Red X in the upper right hand corner.
  13. Click Yes to confirm you want to exit.

LockDown on a lab computer

  1. Click on the Windows Start button.
  2. In the search bar at the bottom, type in Lockdown.
  3. The search will find the program LockDown Browser.  Click on the program to launch it.
  4. Click Yes to allow the program to run. 
  5. Click on the arrow to drop down the menu.
  6. Click on Canvas@Tacoma CC.
  7. Click OK to confirm you selection.
  8. LockDown Browser will close any programs that you have open and running.  They must be closed. Click Yes to close any programs.
  9. Click Yes to continue to Canvas.
  10. You will be prompted to log in. Use your Portal user name and password, click Login.
  11. Canvas will open and you will continue to your course as you normally do.
  12. Navigate to your quiz.
  13. Click on Take the Quiz.
  14. Once you are done with the quiz you will click on the Submit Quiz as you normally do.
  15. To close out of the LockDown Browser, click on the Red X in the upper right hand corner.
  16. Click Yes to confirm you want to exit.

You are done and back to your normal desktop.
