Screen Lock Timeout Period

Tacoma Community College is required to follow State of Washington cybersecurity guidelines. The current guidelines require TCC staff and faculty computers to lock automatically after 15 minutes. This does not log the user out - it merely locks the screen.  Playing a video, moving the mouse, or pressing any keyboard button resets the timeout and prevents the computer from locking.

The State requirement uses this language from the United States Centers for Internet Security (CIS):

“Configure automatic session locking on enterprise assets after a defined period of inactivity.  For general-purpose operating systems, the period must not exceed 15 minutes.  For mobile end-user devices, the period must not exceed 2 minutes”.
